Hellmann’s mayonnaise was named by its Creator, Richard Hellmann, after himself. This is not surprising, because Hellmann lived in New York, a city of energetic people who are ready for constant competition and struggle for existence.
The history of the brand began in 1905 when Hellmann began selling mayonnaise made by his wife according to her original recipe. New York turned out to be a great market, as the ever-hurrying clerks preferred to eat on the go and devoured salads dressed with mayonnaise in huge quantities. High demand contributed to the success of the new enterprise, and in 1912 the first factory for the manufacture of Hellmann’s was opened.
By 1932, when the brand began to dominate the US market, it was acquired by Best Food.
In the post-war period, Hellmann’s became an international brand and eventually added to Unilever’s portfolio.
Hellmann’s mayonnaise is delivered to Russia from Poland. Even a specially created cooking TV program hosted by an American chef was used to promote the brand. In the future, the program’s releases, and with them, the Hellmann’s brand, were popularized through the social networks Facebook and MySpace, as well as the Twitter microblog.
Hellmann’s line includes classic, olive, light, and lighter mayonnaise.
